Less than two months after nabbing an Oscar win for his John Legend collaboration “Glory,” which appeared in the movie Selma, a film he acted in as well, Common’s latest movie role is about to hit the big-screen.
The Chicago rapper, who has become increasingly known as an actor in recent years, appears in a crime-drama called Every Secret Thing set for American theaters next month. Common appears alongside Elizabeth Banks and Dakota Fanning in the movie which is based on a 2004 novel of the same name and was directed by Oscar-nominated Deliver Us From Evil director Amy Berg. The role is the third in a movie for Common just this year after he appeared in Selma, which saw a wide-scale release in January, and Run All Night, a thriller released last month that also featured Liam Neeson and Ed Harris.
Meanwhile, the New York Daily Newsreported earlier this month that director Spike Lee is eyeing Common for a role in a planned Amazon Studios film called Chiraq. Kanye West, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jeremy Piven are also rumored to be considered for appearances in the same film. On the small-screen, director Lee Daniels announced hopes of securing both Common and Oprah Winfrey for parts in the second season of his record-breaking TV hit Empire.
