The album comes hot on the heels of Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet” series (see “R. Kelly Comes Out of the Closet”), a 5 part song/soap opera. The entire saga can be found on the new disc in addition to a 16-minute movie based on the songs. The first chapter of the series premiered on BET just over a week ago with the following chapters coming shortly.
The score is based on the 5 part song “Trapped in the Closet (Chapters 1-5)” and the first 2 chapters, which have recently been released, have been welcomed by has fans and demand at radio is incredible as the following numbers will attest. “Trapped in the Closet (Chapter 1 of 5)” has jumped from 21 to 12 on the Billboard Urban charts; and just a half week after being released “Trapped in the Closet (Chapter 2 of 5)” has followed in its footsteps and has jumped from 19 to 10 on the Radio & Records charts.
Known almost as much for his song writing as his singing, Kelly has worked with everyone from the Isley Brothers to Jay Z, and recently wrapped up work with Gap Band singer Charlie Wilson.
The singer’s legal troubles have not stopped him from filming the video for the lead single “Playa’s Only” with Aftermath artist The Game in Miami. He has an upcoming hearing in his child pornography case scheduled for June 1.
