Fresh off the release of his latest single, “Brokeland,” Pro Era rapper/producer Kirk Knight caught up with HipHopDX writer Bryan Hahn, and offered his current mind-state when it comes to approaching his music.
“I just feel like you can do anything in your life it’s just how you do it,” Knight said as a part of today’s DX Daily. “If you choose to work at McDonald’s then that’s what you will do. But if you choose to make a message or talk about something that you think people need to hear or people just leave as the elephant in the room then that’s what you will do. And I don’t wanna keep to it like some shit where I’m preaching or nothing, I’m a human at the end of the day. I have my own vices. I wanna be able to have songs that speak about certain topics. Speaking of that, go check out [‘Like Me,’] by my man Joey Bada$$. That video is very amazing. That’s some real shit. That’s what I’m talking about. Everybody has a fanbase and you have the ability to change somebody’s mind because you’re speaking in their ears with your music. Think about it literally, you’re listening with your iPod headphones or your Beats and you’re listening to my voice. Why not say some shit that makes sense?”
In addition to preparing the release of his upcoming album, Dusty, Knight is currently touring the West Coast alongside Mick Jenkins on a mini-tour that concludes at the end of this week in Oakland.
