Killer Mike, best known for his appearance on Outkast’s “The Whole World” is preparing to release Ghetto Extraordinary later this year. The album will feature collaborations with Juvenile, Jagged Edge and of course, Outkast.
On the follow up to Monster, Killer Mike tackles social issues rarely explored by many emcees in the public eye; police shootings and the black church. “APD will get you shot down/LAPD will see you shot down/ NYPD will get you shot down/Come f— with me, you’ll get shot down,” Mike raps on “Shot Down”.
“‘Shot Down’ is about more than police brutality; it’s about gun violence also,” Mike told MTV. “A young man here in Atlanta was killed at a MARTA station [Atlanta’s commuter train]. He got a hold of a firearm, flashed it at another teenager and the other young man shot and killed him.“
Another taboo subject addressed on the new disc is the black church, which Mike says has gone Republican. “We’ve abandoned what is really our salvation-based ministry and we’ve bought into blessing-based ministry,” he says of the shift in the black church. “It’s saying that if you act this way, in accordance with God, morally and spiritually, you can get this [material] stuff while you are here.“

The Atlanta rapper also took the road less traveled in another way. He added social commentary with hot production. “I decided to just take what’s stereotypically Atlanta — Chevys, beautiful girls, big rims, purple haze — and tone my style down and do a new Killer Mike,” he said. “Do something that’s jamming and not abrasive that people could move to.“
The first single from Ghetto Extraordinary is “My Chrome” produced by Mr. DJ.
