37-year old Texas rapper Flatline was shot and killed early in the morning on Friday (February 20). Flatline, whose given name was Jose Mendoza, was pronounced dead on the scene according to a local Corpus Christi news department. Mendoza is survived by a wife and two children.
The Corpus Christi Police Department confirmed the murder and announced that a 29-year old suspect turned himself in for the crime. The shooting took place at the Cos-Way Bait & Tackle in Corpus Christi shortly after Mendoza finished fishing with friends in the nearby pier.
Several dozen local residents memorialized the fallen rapper in a candlelight vigil over the weekend.
“My brother did a lot for the community,” Flatline’s brother, Hector Mendoza, told local news outlet Action 10 News. “Through his music he touched a lot of people’s hearts.”
