After touching on the subject with reference to Iggy Azalea in another part of the interview released earlier this week, Nitty Scott, MC explained why she thinks a new wave of female emcees will be able to coexist as a former generation once did.
Recalling the previously concurrent success of artists like Lil Kim, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott, and Eve, Scott broke down how the industry can return to a similar landscape.
“I still feel like there’s a sort of cookie-cutter formula, image, that is tested and tried and true when it comes to female artists,” she said in a clip that debuted as a part of today’s DX Daily. “But I do think that those barriers are being broken and I think that they will be broken. In some way, because of the existence of one thing and one thing only for so long, there comes a point in time where things naturally have to balance themselves out. I think the age where we can all coexist the same way there [was] Kim and Foxy but there’s Lauryn and Eve and Missy too. I think we’ll get there and I think I’m a part of that balancing act.”
