Appearing at the first-ever Fashion Los Angeles Awards in California last week, Kanye West presented the Innovator of the Year award to Mazdack Rassi, founder of a fashion-centric media company called Milk Studios based in New York and L.A.
During his speech, which previously made headlines for his comments addressing his refusal to smile for paparazzi and pictures in general, West spoke about his foray into fashion and the importance of “unselfish design.”
“I believe that the world can be changed, the world can be saved through design,” he said. “Through unselfish design. Through unselfish creation. God is the number one creator. I’m a Christian. I’m not trying to force my opinions on anyone. But in my opinion God is the number one creator.”
“We have the power to change the world I believe through design,” he added. “Because design is the closest to truth, problem-solving. Truth is the closest to love. Love is the closest thing to God. And God is love. But we have to be unselfish in our approach which is the opposite of someone saying, ‘Kanye you can’t get into this show ’cause you’re a celebrity,’ or some shit like that. The way we’ve embraced celebrity, what Miley’s had to go through in the last couple years dealing with the fashion bigots and shit like that.”
