About a month after TDE president Punch released a surprise loosie featuring label star Kendrick Lamar, K-Dot spoke with MTV about the release and why he’s proud to see Punch finally begin putting music out.

“Punch always been a crazy lyricist aside from being a pioneer in the company and crafting artists,” he said. “He always had a knack for music. That’s what inspires the actual company. Everybody has so much passion for the art. It’s not just on the business end. So they know how to cater to the artists. Top Dawg knows how to cater to the artists and be inspired by the music as well as still having to make his ventures out in the business.

“So when you get somebody like Punch crafting lyrics together, that’s nothing new,” Kendrick added. “We seen this a long time ago. Ten years in the making, ten years ago being in the studio and just vibing out. So him going out there not being afraid to put these crazy records out that we been telling him, it’s actually an achievement. I’m proud of it. Talent, you can’t hide that. The funny thing about it is, it’s not for a dollar for him…He’s doing it because he loves to do it. You can hear that. He don’t have to release no music. He’s not doing shows or anything. He just genuinely loves it and that’s what I respect about him the most.”
