News of Bobby Shmurda’s arrest and the 20-year old rapper’s potential charges dominated headlines late this week after J. Cole’s huge first week sales for 2014 Forrest Hills Drive earned him the #1 album in the country.
Also of interest this week, Rich Homie Quan addressed rumors that he’s in a relationship with Young Thug, Iggy Azalea responded to a different type of rumor, and the ongoing leak of internal Sony documents included some harsh words from the company’s execs for Jaden and Willow Smith.
Bobby Shmurda Arrested, Indictment Expected
Bobby Shmurda was arrested along with members of his GS9 crew in New York’s Quad City Studios early Wednesday morning (December 17) and soon after had his bail set at $2 million dollars.

The rapper is facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, assault in the first degree, possession of weapons, intent to sell and possession of narcotics, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree on two counts.
He faces up to 25 years on the conspiracy charges and up to 15 years on each of the weapons charges.
Shmurda’s attorney says Epic Records will be paying his bail.

Rich Homie Quan Denies Gay Rumors, Relationship With Young Thug
Sitting down with Sway in the Morning on Shade 45, Rich Homie Quan addressed rumors that Young Thug is gay and even fielded a question about his own sexuality.
“First and foremost I try not to get into all the comments, because it be so many, but at the same time I see them,” he said. “If I respond back to that, that’s what they want me to do. Everyone in Atlanta know me and Young Thug is not gay. With Thug it’s different, it’s just his slang. I don’t take nothing of it or nothing. I know I ain’t gay, everybody know I ain’t gay… I get a joke out of it, ’cause it’s just so funny how people will take anything and run with it.”

Hip Hop Album Sales: J. Cole, Eminem, PRhyme
J. Cole has the #1 album in the country and the biggest first-week sales numbers of any Hip Hop artist in 2014. Outpacing already lofty first-week sales projections of up to 270,000 copies, J. Cole sold a total of 353,538 albums as of Sunday (December 14). The release quickly jumped to the #1 spot in iTunes and despite a quiet promo lead-up was able to outsell the next biggest seller by more than 75,000 units.
This third album from J. Cole is his second to debut at #1 and third to reach the milestone after Born Sinnerclimbed up to the top spot in its third week in stores last year. The latest numbers also highlight the biggest first-week sales numbers of Cole’s career as well as the best first-week performance from any Hip Hop artist this year, eclipsing Rick Ross’ outing with Mastermindin March.
