Young Chop, who gained notoriety and success while he was still in high school, says he dropped out a few credits short of a diploma. Why?

“I moved to L.A.,” Young Chop says in an interview with VladTV. “I stayed there for like a year. So, I’m like, ‘Man, it is what it is with that shit.’ I found out that school really is not…I don’t want to put no bad image on it…But school wasn’t really for me. It’s not for everybody. That shit is not for everybody, bro. I’m telling you…I got a couple friends that went to college and dropped out of that shit because…it wasn’t meant for them. That shit ain’t for everybody.”

Despite saying that it isn’t for everybody, Chop says he understands some of the perks that come with education.

“School really taught me a lot of shit, though,” he says. “But as I got older, like 18, I was like, ‘This shit irritating. Why I’m still at this shit? That shit ain’t for me.’ Then, at the time, I was getting hot, too. Money started coming in.”

Chop says he wanted to make beats during the day and sell them during the evening, so he looked at school as an obstacle in the process. “I was like, ‘Man, fuck this shit,'” he adds.

Chop, who is close to his mother, says she didn’t know he’d be dropping out until after he did.

“I never told her that shit,” he explains. “I just did it. She was like, ‘So you ain’t gonna go back to school, huh?’ I was like, ‘Hell nah.’ Eventually, I will go back to get my shit, GED, or some shit like that. I need to hurry up before it’s too late, though. I need to start doing that shit now, now that I think about it, now that I’m good, financially.”
