With her last album The Cookbook celebrating its ninth anniversary earlier this month, Timbaland recently told Rolling Stone that a new Missy Elliott record is in the works.
“It’s on her,” he said. “She got the first single, it’s just a matter of when she wants to do it. We got the hollow-tip bullet in the gun. We have the game-changer right there.”
The news comes nearly two years after Elliott’s last solo outings, a pair of Timbaland-produced singles in the form of “9th Inning” and “Triple Threat,” were released.
Speaking on their collaborative relationship, Timbaland admitted to never having seen Elliott record despite their long track record together.

“I’ve never watched her record, never in my whole career,” he said. “I do it, she be like, ‘OK, I got it,’ and I leave the room. She kicks us out. That’s how she do it: She does everything herself.”
Remaining hush about the direction of the new album, Timbaland described the sound in general terms.
“It’s something you ain’t never heard Missy do,” he said. “It sounds today, but the future.”
In 2005, Missy Elliott’s The Cookbook debuted on the Billboard 200 charts at #2 and has since been certified Gold. That album, a follow-up to her 2003 release This Is Not a Test!, only featured two songs produced by Timbaland.

During the interview with Rolling Stone, Timbaland also revealed progress on his own solo release.
“I have no features on it,” he said of an album tentatively titled Opera Noir. “It’s all about truth and what’s going on around us.”
Earlier today, Rolling Stone released a separate segment of the interview with Timbaland about his own album.
“This is my Purple Rain solo album that I’m going to put out,” he said. “I have no features on it. It’s called Opera Noir and it’s the most innovative work I’ve ever done. It’s all about truth and what’s going on around us. It’s about my personal truth. It’s one of the things that MediaTakeOut will care about, but I’m telling you what happened. I’m telling you: At this point, this happened. I’m telling you at this date, I’m telling you that I did this. I’m telling you that she did this or he did that.”
