Fashawn, who recently spoke with HipHopDX exclusively about signing with Nas’ Mass Appeal imprint, says the Illmatic emcee approves of his 2010 mixtape.

“I told him I was scared to put it out,” Fashawn says in an interview with AllHipHop. “He told me, ‘Bruh, you’re good. You did that justice.’ He wasn’t even mad about it, and that surprised me. It’s so rare to get a genius to acknowledge your talent. It’s mind-blowing.”

He says this recent conversation “was the real beginning of our relationship. We got to shake hands in Austin [at SXSW], but that was the first time we’d ever met. I was still star struck at that moment, but last night I got to talk Nas, the guy I’ve been listening to all these years. I got to speak with him. It was ill. It was Illmatic.”

In March, Fashawn spoke with HipHopDX about Ode To Illmatic

“Everyone around me, including DJ Green Lantern at the time, would jokingly call me ‘Baby Esco’ or ‘Little Nas’ in the studio,” Fashawn said an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “I didn’t take it too seriously, not until Green Lantern decided to send me all ten of the instrumentals from Illmatic.”
