Leading up to the release of his third studio album,Nothing Was The Same, Drake stopped by the Hip Hop friendly “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” show yesterday (September 13) to talk about his album, as well as to deliver a short performance, as per hiphopsince1987.com.

When asked if the album artwork portrayed Drake as a child he affirmed. “Yeah it is,” he said, “It’s a gentleman by the name of Kadir Nelson, phenomenal artist, and I connected with him. He like spent some time with me. We came up with this idea for the album cover, just sort of reflective. There’s actually a grown up version of me, which is the deluxe album, so on the shelf they’ll be looking at each other reflecting on what a journey it’s been.”

Fallon joked that the hair pick portrayed in the artwork is similar to the one used by his “Late Night” bandleader, ?uestlove.

“I worked with a lot of amazing people, Drake said. “I made the whole album with 40 [Shebib]. He’s kind of my right-hand man. He’s a producer. We do everything together. So he pretty much oversaw and produced the whole album, but there’s a lot of different collaborators on there. Jay Z’s on there.

Sampha’s on there, we’re actually doing a song that nobody’s heard tonight,” Drake added in reference to the track titled “Too Much.” The song, which is the penultimate on Drake’s upcoming album’s tracklist, was premiered on the show just one day after the release of his “Wu-Tang Forever” single.

Drake began the performance with a heartfelt message to his loved ones. “Before I do this song I just want to say, to my friends and family,” he said, “I want the best for everybody. I love you all.”

Sampha, a musician and producer from London, accompanied Drake on stage, playing the keyboard and singing the song’s refrain. The two have collaborated previously on a song released alongside the announcement of Nothing Was The Same called “The Motion.”
