Yesterday (September 22), the BET network confirmed that Hip Hop superstar and media mogul Snoop Dogg will host the 2013 BET Hip-Hop Awards. The event will premiere on October 15 at 8pm EST. Snoop follows another artist, T-Pain, who hosted along with Mike Epps and Katt Williams.
Last year’s awards featured a Chris Lighty tribute, Fat Joe and 50 Cent appearing together for the first time since their early 2000s beef, and a notable altercation in the awards parking lot between members of G-Unit and Maybach Music Group.
With the announcement of the veteran Long Beach, California host, BET runveiled the nominees for awards this year. An artist endorsed by Snoop, Kendrick Lamar, leads with 14 overall nominations:

UPDATE: MC Lyte is set to be honored with “I Am Hip Hop Award” at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards. Former honorees include Rakim, Russell Simmons and Grandmaster Flash.
Additionally, MC Lyte will participate in BET’s reality television program, Hip Hop Sisters. The show is set to follow Lyte, The Lady Of Rage, Yo Yo, Smooth, Monie Love and Lil Mama.
Lyte is also releasing new music. Her latest single “Cravin'” is slated to be featured on an upcoming album, scheduled to drop in 2014.
