As the conversation on homosexuality in Hip Hop continues to evolve, Snoop Lion has thrown his hat into the ring.

“I don’t have a problem with it. It’s the mentality of the Rap generation,” said Snoop on VH1’s “Big Morning Buzz Live With Carrie Keagan.” “The mentality of the Rap generation is masculine. Macho. That’s like having a football player playing in games, and all of a sudden at the end of the season he tells you, ‘Hey, you know I’m gay, guys. I like you, too.’ It’s a different feeling as opposed to saying it up front and early and you dealing with it.”

“It’s like, this Rap game was created off [masculinity], created off a different stigma,” added Snoop. “We were brainwashed not to accept certain things. But as we get older and we learn, we appreciate life. I feel like, in the near future, it could happen. But not right now.”

Though Snoop thinks Hip Hop isn’t quite there yet, he did take a moment to preach tolerance. “People are people no matter what their preference is, and that’s what we have to understand as humans, that we can’t dictate our life off of what someone else loves or doesn’t love. You have to live your life for who you are, and you have to respect other peoples’ decision and give them their space.”
