The Wrecking Crew’s Curly Castro released a solo project yesterday (February 19), his album FIDEL. Although free, the project was released through Man Bites Dog Records and is available on limited-edition cassette tapes. The Brooklyn, New York-born, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based emcee’s project features contributions from Blueprint, Georgia Anne Muldrow as well as the Wrecking Crew cohorts (Has-Lo, Zilla Rocca, Small Professor).

“It’s me taking an autobiographical spin, telling my story, while tracing an arc akin to The Autobiography of Malcolm X,” said Castro in a statement. “Listeners should be able to embark with me on this personal vessel and take a tour through the veins of Brooklyn, through the sound of Philadelphia, and through the mind of an Uprising.”

A stream and download of FIDEL is available exclusively at DJBooth.net, as of release date.

The Wrecking Crew’s Wu-Tang Pulp was included in HipHopDX’s Top 10 Mixtapes Of 2012. Curly Castro will be joining his label-mates Copywrite, Roc Marciano and others for a showcase at this year’s South By Southwest.
