Fresh off his multiple Grammy wins this weekend, it appears Kanye West is in the beginning stages of recording his next solo album.
In a recent interview with Hitfix, both The-Dream and MalikYusef confirmed that they’ve been working with Yeezy on new material for his sixth solo album. Although The-Dream kept tight-lipped about the project, he said that he and Kanye are planning to hit the studio soon and that, “hopefully we can get another Grammy together.”
Kanye’s longtime collaborator MalikYusef gave a few more details about the impending project, saying that the album will be “a throwback” to an era of progressive black music. He also added that the album will have less of an emphasis on sung vocals than Kanye’s past efforts like 808s & Heartbreaks.
“[Kanye] is a perfectionist, obviously. It’s harsh. He says no to a hundred things,” Yusef explained. “I can’t talk too much about it. Just remember black music, the black experience. It’s a throwback to that era…[and] a distillation of what’s happening in the modern world…I don’t know if we’d ever revisit that amount of singing [that he did on 808s & Heartbreaks].”
