This weekend marks the beginning of an eight concert series starring Jay-Z at the newly founded Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Now, the legendary emcee speaks to Billboard about the upcoming performances and his future role in the stadium.
Jay said that he wants these performances – which begin this September 28 and will run through October 6 – to be a celebration of the first professional sports team to take up residence in his native BK since the Brooklyn Dodgers . He also added that fans can expect a good amount of Roc Nation artists to stop by the Brooklyn Nets’ new stadium for shows, including singer Rihanna.
“I pretty much have sing-alongs at the concert and I want to encourage that even more,” he said. “It’s like a gift to Brooklyn to have this, to all us Brooklynites, to have this arena and this team. We just want to celebrate this team since it’s the first since the Dodgers…I have enough jobs, but they’ll still ask my opinion on most things…[with future performance,] there’s a little nepotism. Rihanna’s on Roc Nation, so of course she’s playing the Barclays.”
As previously mentioned, Rihanna has already been confirmed to perform at the stadium next May as a part of her “Diamonds World Tour.”
