The world of Hip Hop was shocked and saddened when news broke that veteran manager Chris Lighty was found dead yesterday in his Bronx home. Now, the New York Daily News confirms that Lighty’s death has been ruled a suicide.

Medical examiners confirmed earlier today that Lighty’s death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot to head. While the reasons behind Lighty’s suicide remain unclear, speculation indicates that Lighty’s financial woes and bitter divorce may have been the impetus behind his tragic death.

“He was in a lot of pain and he possibly had some financial difficulties,” said Norman Downes, a friend of Lighty. ““The only person that really knows is Chris, and he ain’t here.”

One of Lighty’s star clients, 50 Cent, also released a statement via Billboard bemoaning the loss of his friend and business associate. Lighty famously helped Fif broker a multi-million dollar deal between him and Vitamin Water.

“Chris has been an important part of my business and personal growth for a decade,” said Fif. “He was a good friend and advisor who helped me develop as an artist and businessman. My prayers are with his family. He will be greatly missed.”

DX send its condolences to Lighty’s friends, family and associates.
