After numerous guest appearances from Tray Dee and Goldie Loc on Snoop’s albums, the former gangbangers formed a trio and released two albums as Tha Eastsidaz. Both their self-titled debut and “Duces ‘N’ Trays: The Old Fashioned Way” went platinum, but neither Tray Dee or Goldie Loc saw any money.
They asked Snoop, he said they didn’t recoup. So they hired an accounting firm, Moss Adams LLP (the same that Snoop uses) to examine the financial details. The audit revealed they were owed over $1,000,000 (based on a 2% royalty). To make matters worse, they also found that Snoop charged them $142,000 for gold chains that were given to them for the “G’d Up” video. Chains which they claim were given to about 10 other people as gifts.
“I won’t allow nobody to take my hard earned money,” Tray Dee said. “If you want to take something, let’s go head up and winner take all.” Tray Dee also contacted Leibowitz, Roberts & Ritholz about the royalties and the law firm confirmed that all the royalties for the album were paid directly to Snoop.
