Set It Off meets HBO’s Oz. Starring N’Bushe Wright (Dead Presidents, Blade), Lisa Raye, Da Brat, Tichina Arnold (“Martin”), MC Lyte and Mos Def, Civil Brand takes a look at the injustices committed inside a women’s prison, and how prisons have become big business. The women are forced to work under slave conditions, are sexually abused and it’s only a matter of time before they fight back. Civil Brand won the award for Best Film at the American Black Film Fest and Wright was nominated for Best Actress.

Scary Movie 3 stars more MCs than Def Jam’s roster: Fat Joe, Method Man, Redman, Master P., Ja Rule, Wu-Tang Clan and more. Fat Joe jumped at the opportunity to be in the third installment of one of his favorite movies. “I’m a huge fan of Scary Movie I and II. The producers asked me to be in it so I got on a bus to Vancouver (he doesn’t fly).” Joe battles a country dude named Simon Rex in a scene similar to 8 Mile. Joe has plans to write himself. “I want to write a gangsta flick set in the Bronx and put it out myself. The Puerto Rican side of things. I feel it’s up to me to do that. I always set trends and take things to a different place for Latinos in general. I’m a good storyteller.” But Joe still loves rapping most. “Acting is fun but it’s a job. I’m doing what someone else created, someone else’s vision. With my music, I can speak to the world.” Scary Movie 3 opens October 24.
