Making the biggest entrance of all the hip-hop and R&B celebs at The Source Awards was Wyclef Jean, a.k.a. the preacher’s son. Cruising on his customized larger-than-life spider man motorcycle, not only did Clef ride up to the carpet (with a second motor cyclist in the lead), but he rode down the carpet to the Miami Arena’s backstage entrance. Also following him until he reached the red carpet were two vintage cars filled with girls, blasting music and banners for his new album, The Preacher’s Son.
The dirty South gave the best performance of the evening. Luke and Petey Pablo announced Bonecrusher who was followed by the Ying Yang Twins, Youngbloodz and Lil’ Jon. Everybody in the audience and press agreed their show was the hottest. At the end of their set, taking their cue from Britney and Madonna, two of their female dancers kissed.
After almost knocking out one of NYC Hot 97’s morning hosts, Jimmy Mar for asking him if he was gay, Jaheim strolled down the red carpet with the lady many people believe to be the hottest hip-hop girl at the moment, model/actress Melyssa Ford. She is managed by Jeff Robinson, who also manages Alicia Keys and has a calendar coming out soon.
19-year-old Baby D, who was nominated for The Source Award for “Best Independent Album” just signed a deal with Sony Urban and plans to release his next CD, “The Shining” in January 2004. His first single features Bonecrusher.
