After putting in work for over 82 show dates as part of Tech N9ne’s All 6’s And 7’s Tour in 2011, some might have been surprised by not seeing Strange Music emcee Kutt Kalhoun on multiple performance dates for this year’s Hostile Takeover Tour. But there’s no rift within the family. Kutt Kalhoun has been occupied holding down his own, solo touring duties.
“I’ve been doing my own dates since February, as a matter of fact,” Kalhoun explained during a recent interview via Strange Music’s website. “I’m doing basically two to three shows each week. This is where I always wanted to be at, and now here I am. It’s almost a confirmation of my inner thoughts of where I felt I should be anyway. It feels good to look and see your name on the marquee and everybody else is the opener.”
Kalhoun added that he’s been crossing paths with his label mates as they take breaks from their Hostile Takeover duties. He even joined Tech N9ne and the rest of the crew during a spot date in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While his 2010 effort, Raw And Un-Kutt produced a visit to Billboard magazine’s Top 200 albums chart, fans haven’t had an official Kutt release since 2011’s Red-Headed Stepchild.
“You thought you had seen all of me, but nah…you’ve probably only seen a fraction,” Kalhoun added. “Me and Michael “Seven” Summers—we’re doing some shit that ain’t been done before here at Strange Music. I was supposed to be doing Flames Part Deuce and another mixtape with B.G., and that kind of got put on the backburner due to what we’re about to do now.”
