Saturday, September 13, NYC’s forecast: rain! That didn’t stop the 2,500 fans who gathered at Central Park Summerstage for Talib Kweli, O.A.R. and N.E.R.D. By the time N.E.R.D. (Pharrell plus Shay minus Chad Hugo who doesn’t tour) hit the stage, the rain had faded to humidity. Things only got hotter as the audience—mostly ladies and fans wearing trucker hats—screamed as Pharrell crooned his current hit, “Frontin'” and funk/rock tracks like “Rock Star” from their previous album, In Search Of. One of the highlights of the night was when Star Trak artist FAM-LAY hit the stage to perform his joint, “Rock N’ Roll” from the Clones CD. Backed by a full band, Pharrell and Shay were definitely having fun stripping off their clothes and watching people crowd surf. After their finale, “Lapdance,” they flung free t-shirts and CDs into the crowd and saluted with their trademark hand sign.
