From the days of “Well-Known Asshole” and “Broke, Jobs, Homeless,” people have been waiting for a long time for an Obie Trice album. “Cheers” is just around the corner and most wonder what approach Obie has taken. “I’m just going to do me. I’m not trying to do the Eminem thing, the D12 thing or the 50 thing,” Obie said recently. “I’m going to give the people Obie Trice – love it or hate it.”

Obie signed to Shady Records in mid 2001 when Em’s manager Paul Rosenberg passed some of Obie’s material to him. Immediately impressed, Em signed the fellow Detroit native. Just like that, Obie went from a starving artist to an emcee working with Dr. Dre, Eminem and Timbaland for his album. “Cheers” will drop September 16th.

Eminem pushes nearly 10 million every time out, 50 is sitting over 5 million, most would think Obie has a lot of pressure. “There is no pressure at all. The pressure to me is waiting to get out there. I’ve seen four albums get made Devil’s Night, the Eminem Show, 8 Mile and 50’s sh*t,” Trice said, “Its time for me now.”
