Bow Wow was in very good spirits on Wednesday, June 4 as groups of journalists streamed in and out of Sony Studios in midtown Manhattan to hear tracks from his upcoming CD, Unleashed. He was polite, playful and amped as he bounced from interview to interview. Now 16, Bow Wow has dropped the Lil’ from his name and unlike another teen sensation, Mario, he has unbraided his hair. Bow Wow’s mom, Teresa, who he calls his road dawg on her favorite song on the CD, “To My Mama,” also mingled with press.
The first single, “Let’s Get Down” featuring Cash Money’s Baby is a certifiable club joint, as is Swizz’ “Get It Poppin’.” “The Movement” is “the most important record on Unnleashed,” according to Bow Wow because it addresses problems and issues concerning kids his age. The Neptunes-produced “The Don” is an ode to old school. BAM & Ryan Bowser, the team responsible for Nelly and Kelly’s smash “Dilemma” produced two songs. This time around, little man did more writing and surprisingly, didn’t work with Jermaine Dupri. But it’s all good. Bow Wow’s working hard and it’s paying off. He finally got his first car, a Ferrari.
