R&B songstress Jewell, known for decades of work, including featured roles with N.W.A., Dr. Dre and 2Pac recently provided insight to one of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony‘s earliest hits. Jewell, who had worked on various Ruthless Records projects after meeting Dr. Dre in the alte 1980s, recently told DubCNN.com about “Foe Tha Love Of $.”

The song eventually appeared on BTNH’s debut EP, Creepin On Ah Comeup. However, Jewell claimed that Eazy E, Bone Thugs’ mentor, originally had recorded the song several years earlier Yomo & Maulkie. “I had been at the studio almost every day listening, recording, and hanging out with Ice Cube and MC Ren as they were putting the Efil4zaggin project together,” recalled Jewell of her Ruthless days. “I did the song for Eazy-E and Yomo & Maulkie,’For The Love of Money.’ For whatever reason, Eazy never put that particular song out until years later when he signed Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. What they did was take the rappers [Yomo & Maulkie], but they kept my voice and used the song as it was.”

Yomo & Maulkie released one album, 1991’s Are U Xperienced, on Ruthless. The song, as “For The Love Of Money,” was included, along with Jewell’s vocals.

Jewell’s self-titled album releases this week.
