UPN’s controversial hip-hop drama “Platinum” has been cancelled. Despite high initial ratings when the show debuted, the viewing has plummeted over the past weeks. As a result, UPN will not renew the show this coming fall.

The show became the center of controversy when Project Islamic H.O.P.E. spoke out against it, claiming the show only embraced and glorified the negative aspects of hip-hop.

“If they were true to making a real hip-hop show, they would have focused on the negative,” Naji Ali of H.O.P.E. told allhiphop. “We are vindicated…Hip-hop loses. We had a chance to have a national voice with ‘Platinum,’ I am disappointed but we are vindicated.”
