All hail the queen. The first lady of hip-hop, Queen Latifah will be honored as “Entertainer of the Year.” The rapper turned actor has seen her stock soar in Hollywood in the past year. Latifah was recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Chicago.
Queen Latifah will be honored at the 16th Annual Essence Award on June 6th. The awards will take place Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CA. This theme of this years Essence Awards is to celebrate the power of the word in a variety of forms: music, film & theatre, television & radio, humor & activism. The two hour show will air June 27 at 8:00pm ET/PT on Fox.
In 1997, Queen Latifah was awarded the Aretha Franklin Award for Entertainer of the Year at the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards.
