In 1991, director John Singleton stunned Hip Hop and film fans when he tapped Compton emcee Ice Cube to play a starring role in his critically acclaimed debut feature Boyz N the Hood. Now, after ten years, it looks like the duo may reunite as Singleton revealed that he’s in talks to helm a biopic based on N.W.A.

According to indieWire’s The Playlist, John Singleton has been talking to the film’s producer Ice Cube about directing the feature, which is tentatively titled Straight Outta Compton. Although Singleton says nothing about the film’s production has been finalized, the film’s script is complete and already has a potential distributor in New Line Cinema.

“I can’t talk about it too prematurely about the stuff I’m doing because nothing’s come to fruition yet, but Cube and I are talking about doing the N.W.A. story,” said Singleton. “The script is really, really good, and so we’re just figuring it out. New Line really wants to make it.”

The film reportedly has four writers attached to it, including Andrea Berloff, S. Leigh Savidge, Alan Wenkus and Matt Alvarez, and Cube, David Engel, Bill Strauss and Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Wright will produce. Early reports indicated that 8 Mile director Curtis Hanson would helm the feature.
