“I was harassed daily/by this fat kid named D’Angelo Bailey/an eighth grader who acted obnoxious/cause his father boxes/so everyday he’d shove me in the lockers/one day he came in the bathroom while I was pissin/and had me in the position to beat me into submission.”
It is that verse that from “Brain Damage” (from the “Slim Shady LP”), that has landed Eminem back in court. Thirty two-year-old sanitation engineer (read: garbage man) DeAngelo Bailey claims that the song portrays him as a bully and is suing for defamation of character. The suit claims Em was never subjected to “outrageous and grotesque physical abuse from his childhood friend, Bailey.”
The funny thing is, Bailey has admitted to bullying Eminem in the past. In one of Em’s first interviews, Rolling Stone reached Bailey for comment on his childhood with Slim. He said, “He was the one we used to pick on. There was a bunch of us that used to mess with him. You know, bully-type things. We was having fun. Sometimes he’d fight back – depended on what mood he’d be in.” When asked about Eminem’s recollection of time Bailey put him in the hospital, Bailey boasted “Yeah, we flipped him right on his head at recess. When we didn’t see him moving, we took off running. We lied and said he slipped on the ice. He was a wild kid, but back then we thought it was stupid. Hey, you have his phone number?”
