Hip-hop mogul P.Diddy and MTV have been filming a “Making of the Band” episode in NYC’s Greenwich Village, much to the dismay of the neighborhood’s residents. MTV rented townhouses for the taping of the hit show, neighbors have been complaining of loitering and excessive noise. They are also not pleased about the cigarette butts being left on the sidewalk.
Several of Greenwich’s inhabitants were upset by the SUV’s with tinted windows, and young men with backwards hats. Apparently, they did not feel that was appropriate in the neighborhood. Comments such as these lead Daniek Kohs, owner of the rented homes, to speculate if racism was an issue.
“We have rented this out before to a major motion picture…. I’m actually a little suspicious that the problem is that it’s MTV and ‘Making the Band,’ not the filming itself. There’s a form of prejudice that is being laundered as noise complaints. There was 10 times more street commotion with the last production….”
