Starting on February 24th MTV will hold the “MC Battle” for $25,000, a Def Jam contract and national recognition. The show will start when MTV holds open auditions at its studios in New York’s Times Square. The first 1,000 emccees who show up will rhyme for a panel of judges from MTV and Def Jam Records.
The are only a few requirements for contestants, they must be U.S. citizens, must be at least 18 years old (with valid ID, must have original lyrics, and can not already have a record deal. The emcees will be cut down to 64 on the first day, and that number will be cut in half daily.
The contestant try-outs will interspersed between other programs on MTV 1 and 2. They hope to show all auditions, whether live or taped.
The winner will be awarded $25,000 and a Def Jam contract. The finale takes place on March 1 in a live two-hour show at 3:00pm eastern time.
