How many units you think 50 is gonna move in the first week? That seems to be question every one has been asking lately. My guess was 500,000. Looks like I a few short. According to soundscan the album moved 872,082 units in the first four days, which is a record for a rap artists debut album (surpassing Snoop’s “Doggystyle”).
To no surprise, that is good for the number 1 spots in Canada and the US. The tremendous sales have been exceeding everyone’s expectations though, after selling an incredible 400,000 albums in the first day. Wesley Hayden, Senior VP of Universal Music Canada said, “Not since Eminem have we seen this kind of demand for a new artist.”
In comparison, Eminem sold over 1.3 million in his first week for “The Eminem Show” and over 1.7 million for “The Marshall Mathers LP.” Even 50 is surprised by just how well the album is doing, “I’m shocked,” 50 told Funkmaster Flex. “Y’all can’t even see how happy I am right now. My gums are showing I’m so happy.”
