It wasn’t long after Truth Hurts was burning up the airwaves with her debut single “Addictive” that Aftermath/Interscope was hit with a lawsuit. DJ Quik, the song’s producer, flipped an ill vocal sample of an Indian artist. Turns out, he did not have clearance for the sample.
Bappi Lahiri, whose song “Thoda Resham Lagta Hai” was sampled, sued Aftermath/Interscope, Dre and Truth Hurts for $500 million. On Monday, a judge ruled that the song “Addictive” may not be sold any longer. In order for Aftermath to sell additional copies of “Truthfully Speaking,” “Addictive” either must be removed or due credit must be given to Lahiri.
This injunction can be appealed by Interscope, however, this decision is minor in comparison to the real lawsuit. The parties will go to trial on June 17th to see if Aftermath/Interscope will have to cough up $500 million.
