As Hip Hop continues to dominate the charts as one of the most popular music genres,  many fans increasingly neglect the forefathers that started it all. Now, however, two of Hip Hop’s most important godfathers, Grandmaster Melle Mel and DJ Kool Herc, will get the props owed to them.

The B.B. King Blues Club and Grill is currently preparing back-to-back celebrations in honor of Melle Mell and Kool Herc. This May 17, Manhattan-based venue will host Hip Hop Appreciation Week, with special appearances from Big Daddy Kane, the Force MDs, Money Harm, Jeru the Damaja, Freedom Williams, A.G. of D.I.T.C., T Ski Valley, M.O.P. and DJ Jazzy Jay.

May 17 also marks Melle Mel’s 50th birthday celebration, making the event doubley momentous for the legendary frontman of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

Tickets for the concert are currently priced at $20 in advance purchase and $25 at the door. Fans looking to attend can reserves their tickets at Ticket Master. Doors will open at 8 PM, with the show beginning at 9 PM.
