Long before Nelly paid tribute to Nike’s classic Air Force One’s, Run-DMC rapped about their Adidas. Notorious for their unlaced shell-toes, Run-DMC made the shoe incredibly popular. Now, Adidas is showing their love. Tuesday, January 21st was Jason Mizell aka Jam Master Jay’s birthday, and Adidas released a special addition shoe, the “Jason Mizell Ultrastar.”
Tuesday would have been Jay’s 38th birthday, his widow Terri and his three sons helped Adidas design the shoe. The shoe has a picture of Jam Master Jay on it as well as his name. Only 5000 of this commemorative shoe were made and they are subject to very limited distribution. They can be found at select Adidas stores (including their online store) and at Run-DMC’s favorite shoe store, Moe’s Sneaker Spot in Jamaica, Queens.
According to Moe’s owner, Mitch Toubin, fans have been coming from all over the country to buy the shoes. People from Florida to Maryland have snapped up some of the 200 pairs he sold in the first day. All the proceeds from sales will go to the DJ Scratch Academy (A DJ school that Jam Master Jay was heavily involved in before his passing).
