Thurz of U-N-I has recently teamed up with multi-media art collective #92CREW for a new project revolving around the 1992 Los Angeles riots and Rodney King. With it being the 20th anniversary of the incident in which the LAPD used excessive force against Rodney King, Thurz wanted to use his upcoming album LA Riot and its single “Rodney King” as a chance to reflect on the riots.
“I recorded the song ‘Los Angeles,’ and me and Tomas [of the #92CREW] were just having ideas, sending them back and forth, ” explianed Thurz. “He mentioned somethingabout the riots because he was doing some research at the time, and I said ‘Damn, I want to call the project ‘LA Riot.’ We were just having a discussion and…if we do something regarding the LA riots, then we have to do a song about Rodney King.”

In other news, New York emcee Outasight is preparing to release a new EP titled Figure 8. The five-track project will be laced with production from the likes of Cook Classics, the Knox and Matt Maxand, and will feature the lead single “Figure 8.”
