Chicago, Illinois emcee-turned-politician Rhymefest received an award on Sunday March 6, from the city’s Happiness Club. The award was for ‘Fest’s mentorship and influence on the city’s youth.
Maureen Schulman, Happiness Club Board President said in a statement, “Che “Rhymefest” Smith, like The Happiness Club, has always used music as a platform to stimulate social change. As a role model, Che is proof positive that hard work, focus and dedication to one’s craft is the path to a successful and productive future. Inspired by his life experiences growing up in a working class, single-parent household in Chicago he has carved out a life in art, music and social activism. For nearly a decade, Che has been professionally writing and producing music and has expanded his sense of responsibility fore the community that he calls home and for impoverished, underrepresented communities throughout the Nation.”
Last year, Rhymefest released his sophomore album, El Che last year. He is presently running for office as 20th Ward Alderman in Chicago.
