Maryland, Virgina and Washington D.C.’s celebration of the burgeoning DMV Hip Hop scene was cut short this past Saturday due to violence. The fifth annual DMV Music Awards were shut down after a brawl between rival local crews broke out.

According to XXL, the award show was taking place at the Crystal City Hyatt in Arlington, VA. During the show’s intermission, a brawl involving over 60 people broke out between opposing Hip Hop crews from the DMV area. Police reports indicate that five people were injured during the fight and no arrests were made.

“There were approximately 1,500 people in attendance and multiple fights broke out, and there were multiple 911 calls,” Det. Crystal Nosal of Arlington County Police.

“This community is comprised of thousands from Baltimore to northern Virginia who love to make music and support the artists who do so,” one promoter told AllHipHop. “It was in this spirit that the DMV Music Awards were created five years ago, and in this spirit, the ‘DMV’ will continue to move forward in the efforts to share great work with the worldwide community of music fans.”
