Known widely for his “Lessons,” Steve “Steinski” Stein deeply influenced the likes of DJ Shadow, Coldcut, Prince Paul and Cut Chemist. With a cut-and-paste mix style, the advertising executive won a remix contest for Tommy Boy Records in the early 1980s that allowed him to nationally release his own brand of mixing and become a coveted remixer.
Steinski will make a rare appearance, remixing “Ubiquitous” by legendary Funk/Soul guitarist Dennis Coffey. The original track, appearing on Coffey’s self-titled April 25 album for Strut Records, is remixed for Record Day and placed on 7″ 45RPM record.
Coffey, widely known for sampled tracks “Scorpio,” “Taurus,” and “The Theme To Blackbelt Jones,” will also be appearing at this month’s South By Southwest showcase in Austin, Texas at the following dates:
