Kid Cudi and Public Enemy headline an eclectic mix of artists for Vanderbilt’s 2011 Rites of Spring Festival. The festival will take place April 15-16 on Vanderbilt’s Alumni Lawn. While Nashville is primarily known as America’s country music capital, this marks the second consecutive year Cudi has made a point to visit Nashville; he was also included in the 2010 Bonnaroo line up.
Chuck D., Flava Flav and the rest of Long Island’s legendary Public Enemy will also take part in the festival. While Chuck is certainly no stranger to college campuses given his long history on the lecture circuit, the fact that Nashville’s national music profile is sometimes devoid of Hip Hop, makes his presence on a stage as opposed to at a podium all the more welcome.
As usual, Hip Hop will be fused with Rock, Pop, Alternative and local artists in hopes of continuing Vanderbilt’s mission to “increase the amount of contact the school has with the Nashville community.” Previous headliners include Q-Tip, T.I., and Drake. Students can purchase weekend passes for $30, and Vanderbilt faculty and staff may buy weekend passes for $40. General admission weekend passes are $55 in advance and $65 on the day of the show. On April 1, single day general admission tickets will be available for $45. Tickets will go on sale Thursday, February 24, at 10:00 a.m. CST at all Ticketmaster locations, and tickets can also be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000.
