In January, The Source will have it’s annual year-end magazine complete with the “Power 30” rankings. Sadly, this year’s issue will also feature a tribute to the deceased Jam Master Jay.

The feature will come on page 65 and will be titled “Turning The Tables.” In the feature, those who knew him best reflect on his influence on the industry. “Jay made the DJ as important as the rapper was. Before Jay, the DJ was pushed into the background,” recalls DMC, “He changed what a rap group should be.” Jay’s widow, Terri Mizell, adds, “Hip-hop was everything to Jason. As a legend, he felt he could steer kids in the right direction and prove to them that they could be somebody. I’m gonna see to it that his name lives on. He won’t be out of sight, out of mind.”

The issue will also feature The Source’s perception of who the hottest artists were, the best albums, best producers etc. The “Power 30” list is of course a list of hip hop’s most powerful and influential people. Def Jam’s head honchos Russell Simmons, Lyor Cohen and Kevin Liles have taken the number one spot for the last 2 years.
