Sean Combs has worn many hats since arriving on the scene under the tutelage of Andre Harrell at Uptown/MCA Records. Combs is still the founder of Bad Boy Entertainment—the label under which he still records—and he runs the multi-million dollar fashion label Sean John. Additionally, he’s been part of award-winning ensemble casts in Monster’s Ball and A Raisin in the Sun. After his comedic turn in the 2010 Judd Apatow comedy Get Him to the Greek, Combs says he’d like to further explore his comedic side.
“When I did Get Him to the Greek, I really fell in love with making people laugh,” Combs recently told MTV during the Golden Globe Awards. “I have a knack for improvisation, and hopefully I’ll be able to make people laugh more.”
Combs was fashionably late to the Golden Globes after stopping by Chelsea to perform with the Upright Citizens Brigade improv group. Chris Gethard asked Combs to perform with the group for over a year using YouTube viral videos, Twitter and in-person requests on “Saturday Night Live” and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” When he finally appeared, Diddy was incorporated into comedy bits that incorporated Ciroc vodka, Sean John clothing and riffed on the infamous “cheesecake episode” of “Making the Band.”
“I think it was just his persistence,” Diddy told the New York Times, when asked why he decided to accept Gethard’s invite. “I was like, ‘Who’s this guy?’ But I felt his energy and his spirit. I’m supposed to be at the Golden Globes right now, but I’ll just go there a little bit later.”
