Gucci Mane hasn’t been making headlines since a Fulton County judge ordered him to undergo psychiatric test four days into the New Year. The tests were in line with a request by Gucci and his defense team who filed a plea for mental incompetency after the rapper was taken into custody for possibly violating the terms of his parole. Gucci Mane’s Twitter feed remained inactive for days following the news.

But Tuesday, either Gucci or someone from his camp announced he and label mate Waka Flocka Flame will be releasing new mixtapes. Gucci and DJ Love Dinero will release “Gucci 2X,” to presumably supplement his single of the same name. Fellow 1017 Brick Squad Member Waka Flocka Flame, who was battling his own legal issues before being released on January 6, will be dropping “Benjamin Waka.” No dates have been announced for either project.
In other Atlanta Hip Hop news, Yahoo! Entertainment News reports that Soulja Boy thinks his “Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)” should have beat Kanye West’s “Good Life” for the 2008 Grammy Award. During the 50th annual Grammy Awards, the two songs were both nominated, with West eventually taking home the honors. Soulja Boy told the Associated Press, at first he “wasn’t really thinking about it,” but upon further review “he should have got that Grammy.”
For his part, West called Soulja Boy a genius last year, and the pair have worked together since the 2008 Grammys. On “Grammy” from his current album, The DeAndre Way, Soulja Boy proclaims, “I deserve a Grammy.” The track also features Ester Dean singing, “What do you want from me / Cause I’ve given you everything / What do you need from me / are you not happy with anything / Am I not good enough…”
