Here is the way the story goes from the accounts of Esoteric, and several fans from the show: Cage had been on the Internet dissing Esoteric for whatever reason, saying that he was running his mouth with “no skills to back it” and told him to “tighten up his cadence.” Esoteric thought they should settle it with a battle.

The Demigodz went to NYC and did a show that Cage, Copywrite and Camu Tao would also be performing at. At the end of the last song, Esoteric offered, “if anyone wants to battle, I’ll be here all night.” To which Celph-Titled grabbed the mic and yelled “Y’all should stick around. We got some gay rappers up soon. I’ve never seen one so you know I’ma stick around. Fuck Cage, fuck Copywrite and fuck Homoconference Records!” The challenge was laid, and they waited. Cage finally came out on stage and Esoteric asked him to battle several times, each time with Cage refusing him.

At that point Celph-Titled had enough and walked up to Cage and started swinging on him. Word is that Cage got his ass handed to him by Celph and didn’t even fight back. If you were at the show and saw things differently, be sure to let me know.

“We ain’t battling no more/we ain’t making dis records/we going to shows and punching muthafucka’s in the faces.” – Apathy, Intro “The Godz Must Be Crazy”
