Yo Gotti, whose real name is Mario Mims, turned himself in to Memphis police late Monday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Mims and a man named Lance “O.G. Boo Dirty” Taylor, who is reportedly a rival rapper, were allegedly involved in a club altercation over Thanksgiving weekend. Reports say Mims and Taylor got in an argument on November 29, and when a third person tried to intervene, shots were exchanged.
Five people were shot in the parking lot of Memphis’ Level II nightclub, and Mims nine other men face charges of Inciting a Riot and Aggravated Riot. The latter charge of Aggrivated Riot can carry a sentence of one to six years in prison. Taylor is now free on $250,000 bond.
In the last two years, Yo Gotti saw mainstream exposure after previously enjoying mostly regional success since beginning his career in the mid 90’s. He collaborated with the Clipse, Lil Wayne and a number of other high-profile artists. In a written statement, Yo Gotti’s attorney, Art Horne, said the following:
“He just wanted his fans and the public to know that…he doesn’t condone that type of behavior, and that again, he plans to deal with the charges that have been filed against him. Once he comes back and deals with the allegations, I think his name will be cleared.”
