Last Tuesday, N.E.R.D., better known as The Neptunes, won the Shortlist Music prize for “In Search of…” As a follow-up to their other successful singles, they will be releasing “Provider” as their third single.

Backstage at the Shortlist awards, Pharrell had this to say about the song, “It’s actually about one of our homeboys that was going down the wrong path in life, selling drugs and whatever, and chose to straighten up his life and get a job, which was at the time in the Army. It’s the same story you hear all the time in hip hop. We just decided to it balladish, with a country-western hip hop feel.”

Another interesting comment that Pharrell made was in regards to working with Eminem, “He’s incredibly talented, the syncopation he uses when he rhymes…damn. And he rhymes for himself, he knows himself and that’s what keeps him so on point.”
