Nine years ago, The Roots‘ Black Thought (as Tariq Trotter), starred in Brooklyn Babylon, a contemporary adaption of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. With scattered film roles in the decade since, Black Thought returns to the screen in Night Catches Us, a new film shot in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – The Roots’ hometown.
Night Catches Us stars Kerry Washington, and deals with a 1970s Black Panther returning home to the city to raise a daughter. The romantic drama also stars Anthony Mackie. According to IMDB.com, Black Thought plays the role of “Bostic Washington.”
According to The Morning Call, The Roots also provided the film’s score, which plays into the group’s Soul abilities. The film is presently playing in Philadelphia, and other cities.
