Late last week I picked up a copy of Run DMC “Greatest Hits,” and it has not left my rotation since. That just made the news I heard last night even more unbelievable. Before I can justify saying that this is a tragic loss to the hip hop community, I send my deepest sympathies to Jason Mizell’s wife and children who have survived him. Jam Master Jay leaves behind a legacy like few others. Jay was the anchor of the group that made hip hop the global influence it is today. The hip hop world will forever be in debt to you you’re your contributions, Thank you. Rest in peace.

DJ Next: “Its a really sad situation. I was devastated when I heard the news. RUN DMC as a collective was one of the first rap groups that inspired me. I can honestly say that had it not been for Jam Master Jay helping to pave the way a lot of Hip Hop artists and DJs including myself would not be doing this today. His contributions to this culture could never go unnoticed. My condolences go out this his family, friends and fans. Respect due to one of the greatest Kings of all time.”

Mister Cee: “This is a terrible loss. Jam Master Jay was an innovator for all DJ’s young and old. Too all the DJ’s he was our Biggie he was our Pac he was our hero…”

Tone Deff: “It’s a travesty to lose someone so integral to the development of our culture. Our legends are slowly dying away. I hope this provokes heads to treat what people like JMJ have worked so hard for with more respect, and not take it for granted. What a tragic waste.”

Sage Francis: “I grew up on Run-DMC. They were my idols. It is very disheartening to hear that Jam Master Jay was senselessly taken away from us. I know nothing of the situation, but JMJ is a figure that a lot of us have probably taken for granted. My sympathy goes out to his friends, family and fans. RIP.”

Z-Trip: “The guy that inspired me to keep it simple, that’s the muthafucka…simple, party rockin’ and that’s that.”

DJ Rhettmatic: “Hip hop just lost another hero, the man was a direct influence on me to want to spin for a group…and the best example of how a DJ should work in a group…the Beat Junkies and I will truly miss him.”
